Sciatica
The sciatic nerve begins in your low back and passes through your buttock and down the back of your leg. There are multiple structures that can irritate the sciatic nerve and lead to sciatica:
- Lumbar intervertebral disc bulges are commonly responsible for sciatic pain. To read more about these injuries click here.
- Degenerative change in the spinal joints that occurs with age can lead to sciatica
- The piriformis muscle, behind the hip joint can cause irritation of the sciatic nerve
Sciatica is a symptom, and it is important to obtain the correct diagnosis as to what condition is causing sciatica in your individual case. Only then can an effective treatment plan be put in place to relieve your pain as fast as possible.
Sciatica is one of the most common symptoms our chiropractors and physiotherapists see in the Willoughby clinic, and we are confident we can help you with this painful condition.
