Headaches
The types of headaches that physiotherapists and chiropractors can help with have one thing in common - they have a relationship to the muscles and joints of your neck. There are 3 main types of headache that people present to Willoughby Physiotherapy and Chiropractic with:
Tension-Type Headache
Tension-type headache is the most common form of headache. This headache is a tight feeling, sometimes described as like having your head "in a vice". Often there is soreness in the neck and shoulders associated with these type of headaches. These headaches are usually recurrent and can be daily, or weekly in some people. Migraine
Migraine is a severe form of headache, that can last from 4 hours to 3 days. However the headache is only one part of migraine. Migraine is a genetic disorder in which part of your brain is too sensitive to certain stimuli. Common triggers of migraine headache are stress, fatigue, hormones, diet, and neck pain.
While physiotherapists and chiropractors commonly address neck pain to reduce the chance of a migraine being triggered, we feel it is important to provide you with education about this condition, so you can manage as many of the triggers as possible. In this way it is possible to reduce the number of debilitating headaches that you suffer from.
Cervicogenic Headache
Cervicogenic Headache is caused joints in your neck. The pain is usually dull and aching. Chiropractors and physiotherapists can offer effective treatment for this condition.
