What does a physiotherapist do?
Physiotherapists help people to recover from injury, reduce pain and stiffness in the body, prevent injuries and improve your mobility. Physiotherapists take time to understand your individual circumstances, listen to what is keeping you from doing the activities you want to do and develop a plan to get you back doing the things you love.
What can a physiotherapist help with?
Musculoskeletal or sports physiotherapy can help manage a range of conditions:
- Back pain and neck pain
- Hip and knee pain
- Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
- Ankle sprains
- TMJ (jaw) pain
- Headaches
- Sciatica
- Sports injuries such as muscle strains and joint sprains
What type of treatment can a physiotherapist offer?
Our treatment usually falls into three categories:
- Advice and Education: we can explain what is causing your pain or symptoms, how long it is likely to take to improve, and let you know what you should and shouldn't do to speed up the process.
- Exercise Prescription: we can prescribe simple exercises that require no or minimal equipment to help improve your pain or symptoms. These may be strength, stretching or functional exercises.
- Manual therapy: "hands on" therapy. We can use mobilisation, manipulation and soft tissue releases to help ease pain and stiffness quickly. We want you feeling great as soon as possible.
